Where to watch Peacemaker 2
Entertainment News: Channel 4's huge new reality competition series The Inheritance will launch straight after Bake Off, on Tuesday 2 September.
DC fans won’t have to wait much longer: Peacemaker Season 2 officially lands in the UK on Friday, 22 August 2025, airing at 10 p.m. on Sky Max. In the United States, the show will roll out weekly beginning Thursday, 21 August at 9 p.m. ET on MAX, continuing until the season finale on 9 October.
What Is Peacemaker About?
First introduced in James Gunn’s 2021 film The Suicide Squad, Christopher Smith — better known as Peacemaker — is a heavily armed mercenary with a warped philosophy: he’ll kill, torture, or betray anyone if it means achieving “peace.” John Cena’s portrayal blends absurd comedy with surprising vulnerability, turning a seemingly one-note antihero into one of DC’s most complex figures.
Season 1 explored Smith’s fractured childhood, the shadow of his racist father (the White Dragon), and his struggle to reconcile his violent instincts with his desire to be a better person. The series quickly became a breakout hit, praised for its mix of irreverent humor, sharp action, and emotional weight.
Season 2: What Fans Can Expect
Direct Ties to Superman
James Gunn has confirmed that Season 2 is directly tied to his upcoming film Superman (2025). Speaking earlier this year, Gunn said, “Peacemaker Season 2 directly follows the events of Superman, and it’s one of the major connective pieces in how the DCU is unfolding.” This makes the show more than a spin-off — it’s now central to the narrative of the new DC Universe.
Retconning the Universe
While most of Season 1 remains canon, Gunn has made it clear that some elements are being “chipped away” to align with his DCU plans. The Justice League cameo at the end of Season 1, for example, is being reframed to match the roster introduced in Superman. Characters like Hawkgirl, Green Lantern, and Mister Terrific — who will debut in the film — are expected to appear, further knitting the two projects together.
Multiversal Shenanigans
A major storyline in Season 2 involves Peacemaker stumbling into alternate realities through his father’s experimental Quantum Unfolding Chamber. One arc reportedly shows him entering a world where his father and brother are alive — and, unlike in his real life, they actually support him. This twisty multiverse premise allows Gunn to explore new comedic and dramatic angles.
Gunn has emphasized this isn’t just another copy-paste multiverse story: “It’s about two dimensions, but not in the typical comic book sense. I’m not doing ‘old DCEU versus new DCU.’ Most of what we did in Season 1 still stands — I just trim away the bits that don’t fit.”
Deeper Emotional Stakes
John Cena has hinted that Season 2 will push Chris Smith further into self-reflection. In a recent interview, he noted, “Season 1 was about Chris realizing he could change. Season 2 is about whether he actually will — or if his past is too much to overcome.”
That emotional depth will sit alongside the same irreverent humor and over-the-top violence fans loved the first time around. Expect plenty of laugh-out-loud absurdity, but also heavier beats that test Peacemaker’s fragile growth.
A New Enemy
One of the most anticipated new characters is Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo. He’ll be seeking revenge for the death of his son, Rick Flag Jr., who Peacemaker killed during the events of The Suicide Squad. This sets up a deeply personal conflict — one that could drag Peacemaker back into the violent mindset he’s trying to escape.
Why Season 2 Matters
James Gunn has described Peacemaker Season 2 as “a crucial moment in shaping the DCU”. It isn’t just another side adventure: it’s a narrative bridge between Superman and the wider interconnected projects to come. Gunn has also teased that eagle-eyed fans will spot hints at bigger DC storylines being seeded throughout the season.
