What to Expect from Ricky Gervais’ New Shows
Ricky Gervais has previously performed New Material Nights, including a series of shows earlier this year in January.
These smaller performances are typically used to test and refine fresh stand-up content in front of a live audience. It’s widely expected that these upcoming gigs will feature early material for the follow-up to his hugely successful Netflix special, Mortality.
Each show will also feature a line-up of comedian friends, adding variety and a unique feel to every performance.
What is the capacity for Leicester Square Theatre?
The Leicester Square Theatre has a long and varied history. It originally opened in 1953 as Notre Dame Hall, built on the site of a building destroyed during World War II.
Over the years, it has operated under several names, including Cavern in the Town and The Venue, before being refurbished and relaunched as Leicester Square Theatre in 2008.
During the 1970s, the venue played a key role in London’s punk scene, hosting performances by iconic bands such as Sex Pistols and The Clash.
Today, the 400-seat theatre is best known for stand-up and fringe comedy, regularly hosting top comedians including Bill Bailey, Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais and Stewart Lee.
The venue also launched its New Comedian of the Year competition in 2009, with past winners including Rob Beckett, Sofie Hagen and Dave Baptiste.
Ticket Rules and Entry Requirements
Due to high demand, strict ticketing conditions are in place for these shows:
Photo ID is required and must match the name of the lead booker
Only tickets purchased directly from Leicester Square Theatre are valid
A maximum of 2 tickets per person (and per household) per event
E-tickets will be issued approximately one hour before the show
Tickets cannot be resold or transferred under any circumstances
Any tickets found to be purchased or resold in breach of these conditions may be cancelled and refunded.
The venue and event organisers also reserve the right to refuse entry if these rules are not followed.
Why These Shows Are in High Demand
Ricky Gervais’ New Material Nights are known for their intimate setting and unpredictable content. With a limited capacity of just 400 seats, these shows offer fans a rare opportunity to see one of the UK’s biggest comedians in a much smaller venue than usual.
Combined with the chance to hear brand-new material ahead of a future Netflix release, it’s no surprise tickets are expected to sell out quickly.
How to Get Tickets
Tickets go on sale at 10am today (Friday 27 March 2026) via the official Leicester Square Theatre website.
Given the strict limits and expected demand, fans are advised to log in early and be ready to book as soon as sales open.
