The Floor is coming to ITV and you could take part
Global phenomenon The Floor is coming to the UK
Talpa Studios’ global quiz sensation The Floor, devised by television pioneer John de Mol, has reached its 25th international market — and it’s a major one: the United Kingdom. In one of the most competitive broadcasting arenas in the world, ITV has ordered a British edition of the hit series. The adaptation will be produced by South Shore Productions and shot at Talpa’s production hub in the Netherlands, with a UK premiere set for next year.
The format pits 81 quiz enthusiasts against one another on a giant LED game board made up of 81 squares, each tied to a distinct category of knowledge. The objective is simple but high-stakes: dominate the board and walk away with a substantial cash reward. Contestants take turns challenging a neighbouring player in the category linked to that player’s square — anything from “famous athletes” and “Hollywood actors” to “iconic buildings” and “mammals.” Some rounds feature photo or audio clues, others rely on multiple choice, associations, or open-ended questions. A victory means claiming the opponent’s square; a loss means elimination. As the competition unfolds over ten episodes, the board shrinks, tension rises, and only one champion remains standing to claim the prize.

The UK order underscores The Floor’s accelerating worldwide success. Hot on the heels of launches in Estonia and Latvia, the show’s reach has now expanded to 25 countries, with strong recent debuts in Australia, Poland, and Spain reinforcing its status as a global favourite. Following the ITV deal, Bulgaria’s NOVA/United Media has also signed on, raising the count to 26 territories. Both the UK and Bulgarian versions will be filmed later this year in the Netherlands, pushing the format ever closer to the milestone of 30 adaptations worldwide. The concept’s winning combination of strategic gameplay, striking visual style, and flexibility across cultures continues to attract broadcasters and audiences alike.
Maarten Meijs, CEO at Talpa Studios, remarked: “The UK has an unmatched legacy when it comes to quiz shows, setting an incredibly high bar. Having ITV adapt The Floor is a true testament to the format’s strength, originality, and continued international success. We’re extremely proud to enter this prolific quiz market as our 25th territory, and confident that The Floor will resonate with British audiences – especially with the local flair ITV and South Shore are bringing to the show.”
Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment, Reality & Daytime Commissioning at ITV, added: “The Floor, with its compelling game play, is an excellent addition to our roster of existing popular quiz shows across ITV and ITVX.”
Andrew Mackenzie, CEO at South Shore Productions, said: “The Floor is an incredible format, its success around the world is unprecedented and we can’t wait to light it up in the UK.”
The British edition is commissioned by Katie Rawcliffe and Joe Mace, Entertainment Commissioning Editor at ITV.
