The Bad Guys 2 takes everything audiences loved about the first film and dials it up a notch. The slick animation remains one of the series’ standout strengths—stylized, vibrant, and full of kinetic energy—while the script adds even more humor, making this sequel feel fresh, funny, and bigger in scope. It’s proof that this crew of ex-criminals turned do-gooders still has plenty of life left in them.
The Plot
Picking up after the events of the first film, our favorite band of reformed villains—Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Shark, Mr. Piranha, and Ms. Tarantula—are trying their best to live the straight and narrow life. But when a wave of high-profile heists starts to bear their unmistakable signature, suspicions mount that the Bad Guys are back to their old tricks. To clear their names, the crew gets caught up in a globe-spanning adventure involving daring chases, impossible heists, and a mysterious new super-metal called MacGuffinite. Along the way, they come face-to-face with a rival team, The Bad Girls, who may just out-fox them at their own game.
The Cast
The returning voice cast brings the same effortless charm that made the original so entertaining. Sam Rockwell once again leads as the smooth-talking Mr. Wolf, with Marc Maron as the grumpy but oddly lovable Mr. Snake. Craig Robinson gets plenty of laughs as the master-of-disguise Mr. Shark, Anthony Ramos keeps the energy high as the hot-headed Mr. Piranha, and Awkwafina steals scenes as the quick-witted hacker Ms. Tarantula.
New additions include Danielle Brooks as the slick Kitty Kat, Natasha Lyonne as the sharp-tongued raven Doom, and Maria Bakalova as the crafty Pigtail Petrova. Zazie Beetz also returns as Governor Diane Foxington, alongside Richard Ayoade as Professor Marmalade and Lilly Singh as bubbly reporter Tiffany Fluffit.
Why It Works
What makes The Bad Guys 2 so successful is how it builds on the tone of the first film without simply repeating it. The humor lands more consistently, balancing slapstick gags with sharp one-liners and clever visual comedy. The animation is still spectacular, blending a painterly, almost hand-drawn feel with fast-paced action sequences that keep kids and adults equally hooked. The story has just enough twists and turns to keep the plot zippy and engaging, while themes of friendship, loyalty, and redemption give it heart.
Final Verdict
The Bad Guys 2 is a brilliantly entertaining sequel that manages to feel bigger, funnier, and sharper than the original. With its dazzling animation, energetic voice cast, and a plot full of fun surprises, it’s a family-friendly crowd-pleaser that proves this franchise still has plenty of mileage.
