BBC Radio 1 to launch Live Lounge Late with Royel Otis
The first ever Live Lounge Late will feature in Jack Saunders new music show on Wednesday 20 August 2025 after 6pm.
BBC Radio 1 is taking its iconic Live Lounge sessions into the evening with the launch of Live Lounge Late, a new segment airing as part of Jack Saunders’ show. The first edition will go live after 6pm on Wednesday, 20 August, with Australian duo Royel Otis set to be the inaugural performers.
Royel Otis, consisting of Sam and Alex, have been making waves in the indie music scene with their emotionally charged, genre-blending tracks. Known for their intimate lyrics and infectious melodies, the pair have quickly built a devoted following, making them a perfect choice to kick off the new evening Live Lounge slot.
Live Lounge Late expands on the long-running BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, which first debuted in 2001. Over the years, the Live Lounge has become a prestigious platform for artists to perform stripped-back versions of their own hits as well as unique covers of other artists’ songs. Legendary performances have included Adele’s rendition of “Rolling in the Deep,” Ed Sheeran covering Bob Dylan, and Dua Lipa performing “Don’t Start Now” acoustically, among countless others.
The launch of Live Lounge Late reflects BBC Radio 1’s ongoing commitment to celebrating live music while giving evening listeners a chance to hear fresh performances and exclusive tracks from both established stars and emerging talent.
Fans can tune in to Jack Saunders’ show at 6pm on 20 August to catch Royel Otis’ debut Live Lounge Late performance and discover what promises to be a new home for unforgettable live music sessions.
