Murder Before Evensong is adapted from the debut novel in the best-selling Canon Clement Mysteries by British writer and broadcaster Reverend Richard Coles, and takes viewers back to 1980s England. The series stars Matthew Lewis as Canon Daniel Clement, the Rector of Champton, whose quiet parish life is shattered when a corpse is discovered inside his church.
Daniel lives at the rectory with his widowed mother, Audrey (played by Amanda Redman of New Tricks), and his beloved dachshunds, Cosmo and Hilda. His decision to modernize the parish church sparks heated divisions among the congregation — and then a shocking murder brings even more unrest. As detectives close in and further deaths occur, Daniel is left struggling to hold his fractured community together while attempting to unmask a killer.
