Doctor Who actor Ncuti Gatwa has been axed by the BBC after two series, with no replacement lined up to replace him.
The Sun reports it’s all over for the actor, who embarrassed the corporation by pulling out of Eurovision on Saturday.
The newspaper claims it’s now likely the show will be paused whilst a revamp is worked out, amidst plummeting ratings for the iconic series.
And the move also follows speculation that Disney Plus is set to pull the plug on millions of pounds worth of funding after fans switched off from the increasingly “woke” storylines.
An insider says “It’s unlikely we will see who Ncuti regenerates into as the Beeb will keep options open. And if they do rest the show for years, it makes it virtually impossible to cast someone now.”
Where to Watch understands David Tennant may have to be drafted in for whenever the next regeneration scene is filmed, with producers using the unpopular bi-generation narrative as a workaround.
The final episode in this season will air on Saturday, after which show runner Russell T Davies is also expected to leave the show.
The BBC said last night: “As stated, the decision on season three will be made after season two airs. Any other claims are speculation.”
