Watch a first look clip from new Apple TV Plus documentary series, Mr. Scorsese.
Apple TV+ has pulled back the curtain on “Mr. Scorsese,” a sweeping five-part documentary series from director Rebecca Miller, offering a tantalizing first glimpse ahead of its worldwide debut on October 17.
This exclusive preview opens the door to moments rarely seen by the public, bringing viewers directly into the creative world of legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese. In one scene, Scorsese and long-time collaborators—among them Steven Spielberg—revisit a turning point in cinema history: the near loss of the director’s cut of Taxi Driver. The conversation reveals the extraordinary measures Scorsese was prepared to take to safeguard a film that would become one of his defining works.
Spanning decades, “Mr. Scorsese” traces how the filmmaker’s vibrant personal history has shaped the themes and style that continue to set his work apart. From early student shorts at New York University to the present day, the series delves into his enduring fascination with the moral tensions between good and evil.
“This project is a filmmaker’s dream, to have had such access to legends of the industry, from Marty himself to his prolific collaborators, close friends and family members,” said award-winning director Rebecca Miller. “I was honored he trusted me to create this documentary, which I believe will resonate with everyone from dedicated Scorsese fans to anyone who has grappled with failure and reached for stars. I’m excited to share a sneak peek of ‘Mr. Scorsese,’ which includes the true version of a mythic (a never-before-told) story about ‘Taxi Driver,’ and how, thanks to Marty’s perseverance and dedication to his art, the film retained its integrity and went on to become one of the most culturally significant films of all time.”

More than a biography, “Mr. Scorsese” is a cinematic portrait told through the lens of his own work—an exploration of a mind that reshaped modern filmmaking. The series benefits from unprecedented access to Scorsese’s private archives and features intimate, newly recorded interviews with his closest collaborators, friends, and family. Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Mick Jagger, Robbie Robertson, Thelma Schoonmaker, Sharon Stone, Jodie Foster, Paul Schrader, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Jay Cocks, Rodrigo Prieto, and Spielberg all appear alongside Scorsese’s wife Helen Morris, his children, and childhood friends.
Miller, known for “She Came to Me” and “Personal Velocity: Three Portraits,” developed the project with fellow executive producers Damon Cardasis and Cindy Tolan through Round Films. Cardasis, Tolan, and Miller—previously recognized for their work on “Arthur Miller: Writer”—share executive producer duties with Rick Yorn, Christopher Donnelly, and Julie Yorn, while Ron Burkle serves as producer. Robert Fernandez and Patrick Walmsley join as co-executive producers. “Mr. Scorsese” is a collaboration between Expanded Media, Round Films, LBI Entertainment, and Moxie Pictures.
