KPop Demon Hunters Breaks Records as Netflix’s Most-Watched Film
Kpop Demon Hunters is the most watched Netflix film ever.
Netflix has crowned KPop Demon Hunters its biggest film ever, with the animated musical climbing “up, up, up” the platform’s charts to secure the top spot.
Since its June release, the movie has been streamed more than 236 million times, surpassing action comedy Red Notice as Netflix’s most-watched title.
What began as a relatively quiet premiere at Netflix’s Tudum Theatre in Los Angeles has evolved into a full-blown global phenomenon. Over the summer, buzz spread rapidly through viral clips, memes, and fan chatter on social media.
The film, produced by Sony Pictures Animation, tells the story of Huntr/x, a fictional K-pop girl group whose members use music and combat skills to protect humanity from demons. Its blend of eye-catching visuals and its celebration of both traditional and modern Korean culture has drawn widespread praise.
Yet the soundtrack may be the movie’s most powerful weapon. Several songs have dominated global charts, with Golden recently hitting number one on the Billboard Hot 100. On Spotify, both Golden and Your Idol—performed by Huntr/x’s rivals in the film, the Saja Boys—have taken turns topping the U.S. chart.
This success has propelled the fictional groups Huntr/x and Saja Boys to record-breaking status as the highest-charting K-pop acts in U.S. Spotify history, overtaking real-world icons BTS and Blackpink. The soundtrack also achieved a historic milestone by placing four songs simultaneously in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10.
Maggie Kang, the Korean-Canadian co-director, explained that the creative team was determined to get the music right: “really incredible and really speak to the K-pop fans and be legitimately fit into the K-pop space.”

Netflix has doubled down on the film’s musical appeal by releasing a sing-along version in theaters across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. The gamble paid off, giving the streaming giant its first-ever number one film at the U.S. box office. A sing-along version is now available worldwide on Netflix.
The platform’s updated all-time top 10 films now lists KPop Demon Hunters at number one, followed by Red Notice, Carry-On, Don’t Look Up, The Adam Project, Bird Box, Back in Action, Leave the World Behind, The Gray Man, and Damsel.
