News: The Sun reports that football legend and broadcaster Gary Lineker has signed a major deal with ITV to host a brand-new Saturday night game show called The Box. The show, based on a hit Norwegian TV format, marks Lineker’s high-profile return to primetime entertainment.
The Box is adapted from the popular Norwegian show "Boksen", in which contestants are placed inside a sealed cube and must solve a series of increasingly difficult mental and physical challenges within a strict time limit. The tension-filled format has been praised for combining strategy, skill, and high drama — making it a perfect fit for family viewing on weekend evenings.
A TV insider told The Sun:
“ITV have been desperate to sign Gary to front another entertainment show for years. He has huge appeal, not just with football fans, but across a wide audience. The Box is a bold, high-stakes format that needs a trusted and charismatic host — Gary ticks every box.”
Lineker, who has become one of Britain’s most recognisable and trusted TV personalities through Match of the Day and various presenting roles, is said to be “thrilled” to take on the challenge.
No official air date has been confirmed yet, but The Box is expected to premiere later this year as part of ITV’s new Saturday night lineup.
