Bond Blockbuster Spectre to air this weekend on ITV1 and ITVX

This Sunday at 8.30pm, ITV1 and ITVX will air Spectre, the explosive 24th installment in the James Bond franchise, starring Daniel Craig in his fourth outing as the iconic 007.
Directed by Sam Mendes, Spectre sees Bond drawn into a shadowy global conspiracy after receiving a cryptic message from the late M. His investigation leads him to the sinister criminal network known as SPECTRE, helmed by the chilling Franz Oberhauser, played by Christoph Waltz. The film features a high-stakes mix of exotic locations, slick action, and emotional revelations as Bond uncovers secrets from his own past.
Upon its release in 2015, Spectre became a major box office success. It grossed over $880 million worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing James Bond film of all time, behind only Skyfall. In the UK, it earned around £95 million at the box office, cementing its place as one of the most successful British film releases ever.

With a reported production budget of around $245–300 million, Spectre was also one of the most expensive Bond films to date. Its commercial success helped maintain the franchise’s global dominance, even if critical reception was mixed. Reviewers praised the film’s cinematography, practical stunts, and performances, particularly from Craig and Waltz, but some criticised its pacing and plot complexity compared to its predecessor, Skyfall.
The film’s theme song, “Writing’s on the Wall” by Sam Smith, achieved critical acclaim, winning both the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
While Spectre may not have reached the critical heights of Casino Royale or Skyfall, it played a crucial role in rounding out Daniel Craig’s Bond narrative arc. It set the stage for his final appearance in No Time to Die and remains a key chapter in the modern Bond saga.
Viewers can relive the intrigue, action, and spectacle this Sunday at 8.30pm on ITV1 or catch it on demand via ITVX.
