Absolute Radio's Britpop Summer is coming
Absolute Radio announce a raft of special shows and playlists as Oasis return
It’s the summer of 1995 — the height of the iconic chart showdown between Blur and Oasis. Now, 30 years later, Absolute Radio is bringing that era back to life, inviting listeners to relive the golden age of Britpop when indie anthems ruled the airwaves and defined a generation.
With Oasis reuniting for what promises to be the most anticipated gigs of the year, Absolute Radio is the go-to destination for music lovers ready to indulge in nostalgia, reconnect with their musical heroes, and enjoy an unforgettable summer of live Britpop moments.
Running from June through August, Absolute Radio will launch new shows, unveil exclusive playlists on Rayo, and deliver live festival broadcasts, as well as classic sessions — all designed to capture the energy and excitement of Britpop’s biggest summer ever.
Britpop icon Louise Wener, lead singer and songwriter of Sleeper, will also join the station in July for a special four-part series, where she’ll spin her favourite tracks and share personal stories from the scene’s heyday.
Absolute Radio Breakfast Show host, Dave Berry said: ‘What an epic summer this is set to be for those of us whose formative musical years were shaped by the sound of Britpop. My own history with the Gallagher brothers goes back quite some way, including the time I missed my own Breakfast show thanks to Liam, but Britpop is so much more than just one band and the chance to celebrate this incredible genre should not be missed!’
